About Your Speaker:
Scott Maggs (formerly known as Jimmy Niggles) is the founder of Skin Check Champions, an organisation helping to raise awareness and increase public access to skin checks.
Having lost his friend to melanoma, for eleven years Scott grew his beard for a good cause. Using his new facial hair to raise ONE MILLION DOLLARS for free skin checks, the beard was used to encourage others to get their skin checked. This luscious beard was also able to draw the attention of Sir Richard Branson!
Shortly after, Skin Check Champions was born and today aims to halve the number of Aussies who die from melanoma and increase the number of skin checks in Australia by 25%.

Professor Kelvin Kong AM
MBBS BSc (UNSW), FRACS (OHNS), MD (UoN)
With a demonstrated history of service in the health industry, Professor Kelvin brings a wealth of expertise across various sectors including clinical research, medical education, surgery, paediatrics, health policy, and Indigenous education.
Based in Newcastle on Awabakal and Worimi Country, he specialises in Paediatric & Adult Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery, with a particular interest in Paediatric Airway and Cochlear Implantation.
Hailing from the Worimi people of Port Stephens, NSW, Kelvin's heritage informs his passion for health and education improvement initiatives. Kelvin strives to make a positive impact on the lives of others, guided by his commitment to equity and the well-being of all.
His unwavering commitment to equity and the welfare of all led to his recognition in 2024, receiving Australian honours as a Member of the Order of Australia General Division for his outstanding contributions to health and previous recipient of NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Person of the year in 2023.
Our Story
In September 2015, Dr April Armstrong founded the Business for Doctors group with the aim of supporting her fellow colleagues and friends while enhancing their understanding of business and financial issues. The primary objective of this group was to easily communicate with the members and share her experiences and learnings of financial and business matters.
As a mature age student herself coming from a business background, Dr April quickly realised that it was very rare for other practitioners to have the same knowledge and experience. The field of medicine focuses heavily on academia and clinical expertise, leaving little room to develop a comprehensive understanding of business principles. From altruistic beginnings, Dr April Armstrong passionately continues Business for Doctors as a platform to bridge the divide between medical knowledge and business acumen.
Over the years, April enlisted a team of enthusiastic colleagues who also provided the group with resources, networking, and shared experiences. As Business for Doctors continued to grow, so did the scope of the group. With the assistance of medical colleagues administrating the social media group, it became apparent that this was a niche area where health practitioners had enormous gaps in their knowledge. It was then that this group surpassed Dr April's expectations, and it organically formed into the organisation now known as ‘Business for Doctors’.
The evolution has expanded to other Business for Doctors sub-brands, all facilitating a network of partners and trusted experts to ensure our members have access to the top industry resources. Naturally, this also cemented the concept of the first Business for Doctors Conference in 2017 in Melbourne, with over 150 attendees eager to network and advance their business and financial skills. This Conference has now developed the Annual BFD Conference.
Through our conference, our members gain vital knowledge and access to our trusted partners, which are specifically tailored to the unique circumstances of a health and medical professional. One of the core values of our business is to keep our members actively involved in this journey.
